no time to talk

once again i have very little (few moments) time to write, as we must take our sticky rice with mango and go back to Pong's house to pack our now-empty-packs (formerly packed chock full with package stuff, now sent) with our standard stuff and make our way to the airport to fly to malaysia, thereby bypassing the scary danger part of southern thailand. in case you've just tuned in, or in case i haven't written it, our plans changed quite a lot. we stayed in bangkok pretty much the whole time since we got to thailand from cambodia. with Pong here (so fun!) and his friend (and ours) Nim, we have such a good time and they're so great... hard to leave. we managed one day trip up to the old capital of Ayutthaya, where we pedalled about amongst the billions of temples, some ruins, some still shiny and functional, and some elephants. ohmigaw. elephants are amazing. excited to see some more in AFRICA.

so we're going to malaysia for a week and a half, to singapore for a day and a half, and then TO AFRICA!!! i can't believe it's a new continent. i'm really excited. we need to do some major planning with flights to/from madagascar (just saw the movie, btw, and it has some funny moments, like the ENTIRE LEMUR PART, but otherwise not hilarious) and namibia safaris and not getting killed in south africa...

here in bangkok we did pictures, but didn't finish, so can't post 'em quite yet, but they're coming. we ate GOOD food. i'll have to write more about that later. we went to sing karaoke at a really nice place with lighting and waterfalls. we stayed with Pong at his house, inhabited on a rotating schedule by his parents and cousin and aunt and uncle and tiny cute little niece PongPem, and his sister lives there too. it was fun. we went out to eat with them one night. they speak very little english. we speak very little thai. good times.

ok. i gotta jet. literally. ha.

oh, by the way, how come nobody said "have a nice trip, see you next fall" when we left. it's so perfect!

love,
amy

Hey, I'm first to comment! What a surprise.
So happy you got to hang out with Pong and Nim and RELAX and HAVE FUN. I so wish I could see you doing kareoke- really.
Looking forward to the pictures and more.
Those Malaysian islands look idyllic on a site I checked online-you do find the best places!!
Soak it all up, and enjoy yourselves. You'll need to recharge to set off on your new journey!
Love you lots, and yes, "see you next fall!"
