1770 and cool bananas
listening to people watching "the biggest loser" on the common room tv in the background. wish that wasn't what was on. wish it was High Fidelity, which is sitting in it's VHS sleeve on top of the tele. what a perfect valentine's day movie. i mean really.
so this won't be a full fledged entry. just a short update to let you all know i'm still functional and haven't forgotten about you all.
First off. Happy valentine's day. i wish you all love, cheesy movies, and chocolate.
Moving on. as for the competition, all the entries were good and you're all winners in my eyes, but i think i'm going to have to give the points to our late entry, Emerge. I mean look at that cassowary. he definitely has a remote control lighter bomb thing. for sure. Nice work. what did i say, 5 points? well, whatever I said, they go to you, hon. but really, to MMS and Dryspell - i commend you. better luck next time.
and to the title of this blog: i'm currently in a town called 1770. that's because the creative captain cook landed here in a year that started with 1, ended with 0, and had a 77 in the middle. the hostel i'm staying at is called cool bananas. it is, in fact, cool bananas. and it has hammocks. sadly, i won't have too much chance to laze in them given our short stay (just tonight - we're off to see the turtle hatchlings stumble to the big blue tomorrow night further south and in fact this stop wasn't even scheduled - we just got tired of driving and so we drove towards the coast and stopped).
If anyone's feeling like sending me some love, i realized you could mail something to this address (and put an international stamp on it :) ):

I'll be there in a couple of weeks (moved the plane tickets back to march 2 - we'll see how well that one works) and so if your mail gets there before then, i'll be able to pick it up. cool, hunh? i think so.
The last several days (since the last entry) have been pretty good. when last i wrote, i mentioned that we were going on a whitsundays cruise the following day. as it happened, there was the highest tide ever combined with high winds, and so our day trip was cancelled. we almost went on a different one that goes faster - actually a raft that bumps off the water instead of rocking nauseatingly, but the conditions were too rough so we opted out, got our money back, and headed south several hours earlier.
but i'll get into all that tomorrow (i hope).
love,
amy

I hope the turtle day is fantastic. I'm jealous of platypus and turtles. Stay welland keep writing. Love Barbara
I'm glad you pushed up your date to leave. It sounds like there is still so much more to learn and see in Australia. That rocky raft didn't sound very appealing to me either- good choice not to go! The "turtle stumbling" sounds like fun- hope it was....and Nabia described a wonderful day with the platypus (plural is what??). What a cool experience!! We're still looking at squirrels here! Have a sweet Valentine's Day- big hugs and kisses from your everloving mama.
