Nameeeeebeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
OK. not enough time to really write, as usual, but let me say this: Namibia is a beautiful country. from desert to shoreline to canyons to brushland to moonscape to gravel plains... all exceedingly vast and wide open.
It's gorgeous and absolutely enormous. we spend 4 or more hours driving each day on average. for those of you who'd like to do a little googling to find out more 'bout where we've been, the "sights" we've seen so far are Fish River Canyon (cool) and Sossusvlei in the Namib desert (climbing dunes is hard), as well as Walvis Bay (flamingos!). sounds cool, eh? (btw, the "eh" comes from the canadians we keep hanging out with ::wink::) We're headed up the Skeleton Coast from Swakopmund, the only town of note, where the supermarkets have fresh goat's cheese and smoked turkey, and then we'll zip over to see some rock paintings in Damaraland before hitting the climax in Etosha National Park, where everyone keeps saying the animals are amazing and everywhere and you have to take a 40km detour cuz the herd of elephants crossing the road looks testy that day. Then we'll drive all day every day for a couple of days as we zoom back down (on a tarred road!!) through the capital of Windhoek and back to South Africa to Capetown. Tammy and Kelly leave us on the 26th. We leave for Paris on the 28th. I'll be home in 2 1/2 weeks. oy!
So, to sum up: Namibia is HUGE and EMPTY but BEAUTIFUL. Tammy and Kelly are FUN. Camping is HARD and UNCOMFORTABLE but ADVENTUROUS and COOL. We like to DRIVE and listen to MUSIC. Namibian people, thus far, are really FRIENDLY and NICE.
thanks for listening. more from windhoek perhaps? in a week? i hope so. i have so much in my head i want to write and tell you all! but not now, for we have to shop for dinner foods and the internet place is closing. laundry took longer than we thought. laundry, internet, supermarket. it's nice to be in a big town sometimes. :)
ok. love!
