how to catch up?
i can't keep working like this. it's just too long since i wrote last.
quick summaries:
solo was moderately unexciting, being a big busy noisy dirty city not completely unlike bangkok, where i am now sitting, though on a much smaller scale. the highlights did include: our 1 day batik course which was very much fun and helped me remember how much i love doing crafty things with my hands and allowed me to stretch my creative muscles a little, with nice tangible results which are currently in a box on its way home to mom. other highlight was a nice little restaurant we found with a lovely woman as hostess that had great food, very reasonable prices, and was where we spent the majority of our time in that city. she was also very comforting when we had a bit of an episode with a hotel owner and burst into tears on the street. but i'll write about that another time.
after solo, we went to surabaya, and somewhere along the 6 hour bus ride, fell pretty darn sick. those who know me know that when i get sick, i mean it. there's none of this halfway crap. i get dog sick. well, i did get dog sick, and nabia got puppy sick. we both got fevers and slept the afternoon away at a hotel that was too expensive but at least had clean sheets and "ghost" and "ace ventura pet detective" and "league of their own" playing on the only english channel. unfortunately, their room service food was disGUSting and they didn't speak much english, but whatever. it's over now.
we managed, after much trial and tribulation, to meet up with the beautiful tammy and kelly again, and as nabia was feeling much better, i had three lovely caring ladies taking care of me, which helped me feel better anyway. so we made it to the airport and got on the plane back to KL. we spent the night in the airport - all four of us - slept on benches shaped into a cozy little square with our bags in the center, and surprisingly, i slept pretty well. it was not as uncomfortable as i had imagined. and KL is a good airport if you have to stay overnight somewhere. very clean, lots of bathrooms, lots of resources and food available...
next morning, said our farewells (very sad) to the dear canadians, and boarded the plane to bangkok.
here we are in bangkok. i'll write more about it when i have time, but i'll just say this before i go have a quick shower before meeting my thai friend pong to go sing some karaoke: bangkok really IS dirty and huge and there are SO many white people on koh san road (sp?). it's like being back at home. it's a little bit of a culture shock, actually. crazy crazy. i'm ready to leave here in the next couple days - as soon as we get our passports back from the vietnam embassy. so i'm feeling better, though not yet 100%, but on my way. i've had some good green curry, and some decent yellow curry, and rice and vegetables a couple of times. tonight? maybe some pad thai. we'll see how i'm feeling and how close the nearest bathroom is.
ok. more at some later time.
toodles,
amy
